Now thats a bridge!

Tuned a little known German piano and noticed this unique bridge designNever heard of this brand of piano out of Berlin. Thats the thickest bridge I have ever seen.Schwechten is very well built. Plays and sound really amazing considering it is close to 100 years old. It has been in the family since new.

The finish of this piano is incredibly “alligatored”. I was very surprised at how well it tuned up considering how dry it must have been over the years to make the finish shrivel up like this. I guess they don’t make them like they used to.

I tuned a piano well over 100 years old and it had these stickers that told when it was tuned. First date is from 1917. I really enjoy that fact that I am doing the same job people have done for hundreds of years. In fact tuning the same piano someone tuned over 100 years …

Agraffes in the wrong place . . .

at a piano tuning in Wellesly I noticed this “cupid” model Sohmer grand piano has agraffes at the bridge instead of before the dampers.  As the sound board flattens out the down bearing pressure at the bridge changes.  Now these notes a very “buzzy”.
